Behrang Fakharian is an architect and visual artist. This website showcases his artworks highlighting the intersection of art, society and architecture. His art promotes an experimental act of exploring the “lived moment” between his observations, memories, and imaginations. From this point of view, the conceptualisation and creativity of his artworks happen in the dynamic process of making rather than planning a solid image of the final product. His work incorporates a broader range of subject matter with inspirational, philosophical, or poetic qualities regardless of genre, medium, or format. The outcome of this experimentation gives rise to each series of work re-evaluating the potential of a concept, a process, or a media.

Palette

The Palette portfolio questions the conventional methods of painting by exploring alternative forms, materials, and canvases. The pieces are built-up in the layered surfaces of colors and textures realized with less-explored graphic properties of adhesive substances and building materials. Here, a paper as one of the most classic and conventional painting sheets is used as a tool of painting on a novel canvases like steel board. The multiplicity of graphic components superimposed on each other recalls the notion of trace which is the fundamental content of this portfolio. In other terms, the concept of the trace as it relates to layers can be understood in a hermeneutic perspective where the reconstruction of memories is derived from the constant process of evolution in one’s mind.

Angle

The Angle portfolio interrogates the exclusive territory of digital image as one of the most effective study and communication tools in the post-industrial society. However, the image in these works is not a medium to represent an existing outside reality. It is a visionary state reflecting the structural properties of people, objects, and patterns in their dynamic spatial interdependency. The works re-translate the contemporary urban life and material culture into various abstracting conceptions. In this regard, the aspects of perceptual process are re-modeled to express the dualities between harmony and chaos; connection and separation; still and motion; continuity and discontinuity.

Lines

The Lines portfolio investigates the practice of drawing as the core essence of all fine-arts. The illustrations are done in one sitting with line-drawing technique lied in simplification and abstraction. The improvised activity of immediate visual composition is used to create a conscious link to the unconscious mind. From this perspective, the one-line illustrations are a process of interaction between the surrounding environment and the artist’s insight of that specific moment. The content consists of the subjective perception of people, systems, and places.
